Which D.E. copy choice matches DDI?

Postby Platterpuss » 28.07.16, 01:42

Hi, just got a RAID system in the lab. I plan to Clone all the Toshiba 2TB drives using both DDI and PC3K.

Question is, when setting up Copy in Data Extractor, a popup comes up and says something along the line
of "Physical sector differs from Logical Sector, select Physical?" This has been coming up more often.

Question: Which one is the Clone, like DDI?

Question 2: Why is there this choice?

On DDI, all we do is drop the LBA size (of the Destination/Image drive) to match the Patient drive and we're good to go.

So, MAIN QUESTION: Which do I choose on PC3K, Physical or Logical, in order to "match" the images done on DDI??

Hi, this issue happens on other drive manufacturers too.

Does anyone know?

What do you do when you see this dialog box?

It's just because the drive has 4K sectors rather than 512. It honestly makes no real difference which one you choose to use. The only real advantage I can see of using the drives's native 4K size is that it'll properly display the individual sectors that physically exist, and just only in whole sectors rather than potentially jumping in 1/8ths of sectors. For example if you use 512byte sector size in DE and it's a 4K physical sector drive, you'll alway have at least 8 bad sectors in a row (that's how many logical sectors in one physical one). So if you're doing a jump size of 1 it's actually trying 8 times to read that same sector. Other than that, not much difference.
