WD USB3 drive

Postby STT » 07.05.13, 09:42

Does PC3000 UDMA supports WD USB3 drive? I tried on my PC3000, but found out that it has only one model, Venus in WDC Marvell USB category.

Also, is there any manual about how to swap the WD USB3 PCBA wtih SATA PCBA?

PC3000 UDMA does not support USB3 yet.
But you can solder sata connector
to PCB and work with this drive as usual.

You can swap compatible SATA PCB with USB3 PCB.
It is necessary to transfer the native firmware with a USB drive on a SATA card.
To do this you must read ROM from USB PCB and write it to a donor board.

What is the PCB code on your PCB?

Maxim,
thank you for your reply

The reason I did not just change the connector is because the problem I faced now is I cannot detect the drives at all, so I am thinking of swaping the USB3 PCB to SATA PCB.

From your reply, you mentioned that "transfer the native firmware with a USB drive on a SATA card...", and yes this is what i looking for, but unfornately, UDMA cannot detected my good USB3 PCB as it only has Venus (USB2) families. Is my software the latest? Do we have other way to read the ROM from USB3 PCB?

Hi AJ2008, do you mean this: 2060-771814-001? Do you have the firmware and ROM flash for this model?

yes, your software is latest

if you solder SATA connector to USB PCB, you can run WCD Marvell utility

>Do we have other way to read the ROM from USB3 PCB?
if ROM doesn't read via USB, the one way is ROM chip resoldering
to a compatible SATA board. The other way to read the ROM is
to unsolder ROM chip and read it on programming device.

Yes, this is right. Look at PCB from some HXZT, or maybe newer JJ5T model, you need SATA PCB 771820. If you get it, solder ROM from U12 to SATA PCB.

Remember you will need to decrypt once you have made image/repair

Do you think the USB3 will be available in PC3000 later?

Ok, so it involve physical resolder of the ROM

This is for USB2, but principle is the same:

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7314

But is much easier to find cross compatible SATA board...

Hello,
I have a drive WD10TMVW-11ZSMS5 with PCB : 771814 (USB3). This drive is fully fonctional but it is slow.
I'd like to apply the solution for "slow responding".I tried PCB : 771820, from WD7500BPVT-22HXZT3 and 771820 from WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0. In the two cases, the drive WD10TMVW-11ZSMS5 doesn't spin.
Do you have an idea to convert PCB : 771814 (USB3) to sata ?
Thanks for help

771820 should do fine, do you write ROM via Boot ROM ( Com port ) if not, try that.
