WD80EDBZ-11B0ZA0 Head Replacement

Postby SR50R » 13.08.24, 22:39

Am I wrong that head replacements from donor parts are impossible with this model due to rom parameters related to the original heads?

I have recovered 3 out of four of these from jammed spindles keeping the Original PCB and Heads intact with great success.

But the moment the heads need replacing the drives done.

Thoughts?

do you swap the platters to a new base, or fix the original jammed spindle?

In these cases, you swap everything to a new base or enclosure, platters, heads, ramp, etc.

I noticed this trend with the Hitachi-style WD desktop drives. PC3000 doesn't seem to work on these models, as they don't work in either the Hitachi or WD utilities, so we can't do reroutes or work with the system area.

Admins: Are there any plans in the works for PC3000 support for WD drives that follow Hitachi's design? Or, is there already support for these that we're not seeing?

Think support for Hitachi ARM-CCB is under development.
